In the case that guitar stickers are used for decoration purposes, they may be placed in a variety of locations and may take a variety of shapes and sizes. Guitar stickers used for learning purposes are typically placed on the fretboard of the guitar. Fret Daddy specializes in manufacturing instructional guitar stickers only. We do not sell decorative guitar stickers at this time.

Stickers for guitar learning purposes typically include a number of common elements including: a special ultra-removable adhesive element, note indicia, which allows students to visually observe chords, notes, patterns, and other musical concepts. While there are a number of possible types of guitar stickers in theory, there are only a small handful of manufacturers of instructional guitar stickers in the world. DO NOT buy instructional stickers for your guitar from untrusted sources, as stickers that are placed on the fretboard of your guitar must be made of very specific materials to prevent surface wood damage. Guitar stickers that are not produced using state of the art adhesive technology may leave residue, permanent marks, or worse.

If you are a beginner guitar player and would like to learn guitar chords, riffs, scales, and songs, you will first need to learn the names of the notes of the guitar. This is a somewhat cumbersome memorization task that every guitar player must eventually take the time to undertake. But the benefits of knowing the notes on the guitar greatly outweigh the annoyance of taking the time to learn them.

The fingerboard of the guitar and the names of the guitar notes are not too mysterious, once you learn to spot the patterns. Essentially, the notes move upward, in alphabetical order until you arrive at G, then they start over again with 'A'.

Easy enough, right? Well, not quite. There are unfortunately a few wrinkles in this otherwise straight-forward rule of thumb. For example, some of the letter notes have other notes in between them called 'sharps and flats'. For example, the notes named 'A' and 'B' have a note in between them called 'A sharp/B flat'. 'Sharp' basically means 'one half step higher', and 'flat' basically just means 'one half step lower'. A half step is just one fret.

All the notes in ascending 'chromatic' order (from lowest notes to highest notes), starting from A and going to G, look like this:

And repeat.

Notice that they the names of the guitar notes are in alphabetical order, at that some of the notes (but not all of them) have sharps and flats between them.

Once you know have memorized this information, all you need to know in order to figure out every note of the fretboard is the names of the open strings. The string that is closest to your head is called the low E string. It is called the low E string because it is the lowest string and because the note that you play when you play it is an 'E' note. Below are the names of each of the strings in order from your nose to the floor, while holding the guitar:

E – the low E string, also known as the 6th string
A – 5th
D – 4th
G – 3rd
B – 2nd
E – 1st
